Mac
macOS 14+ on Apple silicon
Download for MacShortCuta.dmg
Requirements
- A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later). Intel Macs aren't supported.
- macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
- Transcription runs on the Mac's own GPU.
Install
- Open ShortCuta.dmg.
- Drag ShortCuta into Applications.
- Open it from Applications. It's signed and notarized by Apple, so it opens without a warning.
Windows
Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit)
Download for WindowsShortCuta-Setup.exe
Requirements
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit (x64).
- For fast transcription, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 20 or GTX 16 series card or newer, with driver 580 or later. Without one it runs on the processor, which is much slower.
Install
- Run ShortCuta-Setup.exe.
- The installer isn't signed yet: when SmartScreen warns, choose More info, then Run anyway.
- It installs for your user only, without asking for admin rights, and opens ShortCuta.
What else you need
On Mac and Windows alike. Setup asks for each of these, and you can skip any and add it later in Settings.
- Your own Claude or ChatGPT subscription
- ShortCuta doesn't include AI. It runs Claude Code or Codex signed in to your own Claude or ChatGPT plan, or a Claude API key, to pick clips, clean up captions and draft layouts. What it uses comes out of your plan or your API credits.
- ffmpeg, yt-dlp and uv
- Setup checks for them and gives you the command to install each one (Homebrew on Mac, winget on Windows), then installs the speech models' Python packages itself.
- A Google Cloud OAuth client
- A Desktop app client with the YouTube Data API enabled, to upload to your channels. Rendering needs nothing else: Shorts render inside the app.
- Disk space
- About 1.5 GB for the speech models, downloaded the first time they run, plus several GB for VOD audio, clip footage and renders.
Updates install from inside the app. Older versions and release notes are on GitHub.
